If you could change one thing about America’s education system, what would it be?

Create equity in teaching and environment. Whether public, private, magnet, charter — every child in America should receive the same quality in the content of their education, the same experience in the safety and beauty of their physical environment, and the same richness in the relationships they create with fellow students.

What workplace skill is a dying art, and why is it necessary?

Communictaion. I believe that text messages have single handedly eroded the quality of communication in all facets, direct verbal communication, and grammatically correct and complete written communication. Without clear understood communication, ideas can't be shared and understood and problems can't be solved.

How do you respond on your worst day?

I'm a pretty optimistic person everyday. On my worst day I try and recall my last worst day and acknowledge that I survived that one — so I'll survive this one.

If you had to change careers, what would you do instead, and why?

If I could wave a wand and have my dream days, I would be an author and motivational speaker. My story of resilience, tenacity and success could provide encouragement.

If you could go into business with anyone dead or alive, who would it be and why?

Oprah. For the multitude of obvious reasons.
